Diabetes Epedemic
Diabetes is a disease that affects almost 21 million children and adults in the United States and over 170 million people worldwide. 15 million have already been diagnosed with the desease, however 6 million people have diabetes without knowing. This is called pre-diabetes and that number is growing by the day. The danger with pre-diabetes is that it can cause heart and circulatory problems, and since millions of people do not know about their disease, this will cause serious health problems for them in the future. In the last two decades, people with diabetes has doubled around the world. If this trend continues, people with diabetes will reach 380 million in 2025. Unfortunately governments have done little to stop this epedemic.

This is a disease in which the body is unable to produce or properly use insulin, which is a hormone that is needed to convert the sugar and starches in your body into energy. This sugar is called glucose and when your body is unable to produce insulin the glucose backs up in your bloodstream causing your blood sugar levels to raise much higher than normal.

There are two types of diabetes:

Diabetes 1 – Also known as Juvenile Diabetes, this is when your body completely stops producing insulin. People who are afflicted with Diabetes 1 usually need to take daily insulin injections to survive.  It can occur at any age, but usually develops in children or young adults.

Diabetes 2 – Also known as Adult-onset or non-insulin diabetes. This type of diabetes happens when you are an adult, although many younger people, even children, are developing Diabetes 2. Although you do produce insulin, you usually don’t produce enough or you have insulin resistance. This usually happens when you overweight, have a family history of diabetes, or have had gestational diabetes.

People with both types of Diabetes have certain symptoms that they develop. These include: Extreme thirst, frequent urination, weight loss or weight gain, frequent or intense hunger, blurry vision, irritability and anger, numbness or tingling in your hands or feet, frequent bladder infections, wounds that don’t heal and unexplained fatigue.

In some cases, specifically with Type 2 Diabetes, many people show no symptoms at all, which is a problem in itself because they don’t know to get the help that they need. Type 2 Diabetes comes on gradually so it could be years before you develop any real signals, and by that point it can be too late.

Alternative medicine practitioners are convinced that the way to heal diabetes is to consume foods that are "primal". They believe that Type 2 Diabetes is a nutritional condition that needs to be taken care of through detoxifying your body. They argue that if you look back in time, the nutritional requirements in humans have not changed. Our digestive system still is made for digesting foods that humans did millions ago, but yet we’re eating more sugar and processed foods everyday. Therefore we are taking away from our body what it needs the most. That isn’t to say that we need to hunt and fish instead of going to the grocery store, but to heal Type 2 Diabetes we might want to consider going back to the basics. That means eating plenty of meats, fish, and protein and staying away from pre-packaged foods that our bodies just don’t know how to digest.

Remember that if your blood sugar gets out of control, it can lead to many problems later in life. In fact two out of three with diabetes die of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Therfore it is important that you deal with this desease now.
