Is there an apple cider vinegar acne solution?
As is the case for many people these days, I have been on a quest for more natural solutions when it comes to taking care of my body and my home, and recently I heard about an apple cider vinegar acne solution.
Throughout my life, I’ve had problems with acne and overall dull skin, with occasional outbursts of acne that were a little worse than usual, and it was especially tough because I felt that so many of the “solutions” were really rough and harsh on my skin.
And then I started hearing about apple cider vinegar, and the apple cider vinegar acne treatment. You can use ACV as both a topical treatment, as well as something to drink daily (in small amounts), for overall good health and wellness!
First, I will tell you how to use it as a topical treatment. Before I do, however, I want to tell you what kind of apple cider vinegar you should get, and what you should stay away from. You will want to use raw, natural, unfiltered and unpasteurized vinegar for your apple cider vinegar acne treatment.
Most large grocery stores carry it, but you may have to go to a health food store to find it. The vinegar you will want to use is the kind with the “sediment,” or the “mother” in it. Don’t be scared – that “sediment” you see is actually the good stuff and contains all the benefits!
You will want to steer away from regular, clear cider vinegar if you are seeking all the benefits that apple cider vinegar has to offer for your body and your skin.
So now that we have that out of the way, you will want to know the benefits and how to use it, right? Well, in a nutshell, part of the reason that this cider vinegar helps to clear skin is that vinegar is a natural disinfectant with anti-microbial properties.
Apple cider vinegar also contains alpha-hydroxy acids, which help skin renew itself more quickly. It helps eliminate nasty fatty deposits on the skin and helps with reducing roughness and scaliness. It also helps to regulate the pH balance of the skin. The result is clearer, softer and smoother skin that feels velvety (because it’s not overly drying) to the touch.
How to apply the apple cider vinegar for acne treatment
For the apple cider vinegar for acne treatment, you will want to use vinegar diluted with some water so that it is even gentler on your skin. A good rule of thumb is one part cider vinegar to 8-10 parts water. This would be equal to about 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar to 1 cup of water. If you have a particularly large and heinous pimple, you can definitely do a spot treatment using the vinegar alone.
All you do is dunk a cotton ball into the vinegar and dab it on! Easy and gentle way to improve acne! I know someone whose husband had a problem with back acne and every night she would dab some on his back while he would lie on his stomach, and it helped clear it up immensely!
You can also make a really awesome facial mask to improve acne, using apple cider vinegar. It’s fun to do your own “spa treatment,” especially one that is so beneficial! What you do is mix this cider vinegar with bentonite or green clay (also available at most health food stores).
Mix 1 part clay or bentonite with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and add water until it becomes a thick paste. Then put the mask on your face and leave it there for about 20 minutes or so, until it dries (it feels really cool when it’s drying – I swear you can feel it drawing out the yucky toxins in your skin!).
Then just rinse off with cool water. The clay helps to draw out the toxins and, when mixed with the antiseptic properties of the vinegar you get a powerful yet gentle acne remedy!
We talked about ways apple cider vinegar can improve acne topically, so now let’s talk about the benefits of drinking this vinegar elixir! You use the same kind of apple cider vinegar (the raw, unpasteurized kind) and again, you dilute it in some water.
Some people prefer to sip it slowly throughout the day, and some people like to start off their morning with one glass. I had a friend in college whose mother (who had the most amazing skin) took a small “shot” every morning because she just truly enjoyed that vinegary taste, but most people prefer it diluted.
The benefits of taking apple cider vinegar this way are numerous, and not just limited to your skin!
This vinegar is great for lowering cholesterol, helping with sore throats, helping as a general stress reliever; I could go on and on…. But we are talking about apple cider vinegar as a natural skin remedy and being healthy starts on the inside! Apple cider vinegar can be used as a detoxifying drink or as a topical ointment to improve acne, and the look of skin.
