Aesthetic dentistry has become a booming industry because of the insatiable appetite for whiter teeth. It has essentially changed modern dentistry as we know it. This need has been answered by dental companies around the world looking to find the best and quickest ways of whitening teeth. Just looking at the number of products that are offered to safely clean and whiten teeth you can see how much people want this as part of their regular dental routine. They want long lasting results with no hassle products ranging from the dental office photochemical laser bleaching to the at-home bleaching kits. Whatever is most effective, is what people are searching for. This begs the question of what is most effective and what can actually deliver the best results. One of the quickest ways to whiten your teeth is with laser whitening. It only takes a mere hour to an hour and a half to get the results that you desire. Either you or the dentist applies a peroxide based bleaching solution to the teeth which is activated by a high intensity laser. Depending on the level of staining it may require more than one treatment. It can be done at home at a lower cost with your own laser treatment system, or you can do it safely at a dentists office for a charge of $500 to $2000 per treatment. The only downside to this treatment is that it can cause increased tooth sensitivity. This can often be reduced by fluoride treatments that follow the laser procedure. Studies have shown that you are somewhat more likely to have tooth sensitivity but not so much more than other teeth whitening treatments. The sensitivity is usually not that severe and on average it only lasts about 24 hours. The fluoride treatments help to re-mineralize the teeth, which in turn reduces the sensitivity you feel. After the treatment it is recommended that you use a sensitive teeth toothpaste such as Sensodyne. You can also take Motrin or Advil for any discomfort you may feel. There is an alternative tray type method that is used for people with extremely sensitive teeth. Instead of wearing the whitening tray overnight they can wear it for a few hours each day. This makes it more comfortable for people with sensitive teeth, but it also takes longer to achieve the desired affect, as many as 5 weeks or even more. Still, laser teeth whitening is really becoming the teeth whitening process that people most choose because of its long lasting results and quick process.
