Heartburn Cure
Heartburn is a serious issue because it can cause discomfort and sometimes even extreme pain. It is one of the most common conditions that affect people and is usually caused by eating a large amount of food or something that is particularly spicy. When you eat food it passes from your mouth down a tube that is about 10 inches long called the esophagus. The food passes through an opening between the esophagus and the stomach that acts as a gate between the two. The opening usually closes as soon as the food passes through but if it doesn’t close right away then acid from your stomach can get into the opening of your esophagus. This stomach acid irritates the esophagus and causes heartburn. Heartburn occurs in your chest around the area of your heart underneath your chest or breast bone. The pain may travel elsewhere if not treated immediately, such as into your stomach or up your throat.

In general occasional heartburn does not necessarily mean that there is any underlying problem, but if it is an ongoing problem then it could signify something more serious. If you do have heartburn on a regular basis and it is not treated then it could lead to esophagitis which is the inflamed lining of your esophagus. Depending on your amount of heartburn there are several different treatments available to you. First you should consider a lifestyle change because that is what will really get rid of the heartburn for good. This includes:

• Not smoking cigarettes

• Eating at least 3 hours before bedtime

• Losing weight

• Not overeating

• Avoiding the foods that are known to give you heartburn

Besides lifestyle changes, there are several remedies for heartburn. Antacids are one of the most popular choices, but there are other drugs such as H2 Blockers. Natural herbs are also a popular, which can be used for frequent heartburn. Teas with the natural ingredient of arrowroot, as well as slippery elm are known to be incredibly helpful. Fennel, anise seeds, or a few cups of chamomile tea per day are other home remedies you can find easily in your local health food store.

You can use any of these remedies but unfortunately they will not cure the problem, only control your symptoms. While chamomile tea or an antacid will definitely make you feel better, they do not eliminate heartburn. That can only be done through life changes such as eating better, losing weight, and exercise. It is important that you understand where the root of the problem comes from, and what causes your digestive problems. They are easy to correct, if you are willing to do the work involved. Remember that Heartburn or GERD can develop into a much more serious issue if untreated, so it is important to look at your lifestyle and see what changes you can make to eliminate your heartburn for good.
